Hi Linda,
I responded to the ticket you opened up. This is the first time we've heard of this one. We're looking into it. Anyone else had this problem?
Thanks,
Cory
I am probably too dumb to own a computer. I replied to you via e-mail and of course it got bounced.
I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.6. I had been trying to change the pictures associated with the tags I had made and was going back and forth from "Ilove" to my address book to see if the new picture was showing up. It was not changing in my address book so in "Ilove" I checked the "update address book" box and my "spinning wheel of death" as I call it (the color beach ball) started up. Anyhow, after waiting out the "wheel of death" a couple of times, I thought if I shut down my computer and restarted, it might update the tag pictures in my address book. I shut down and much to my surprise, my address book was wiped clean. All categories. Did panic set in - Oh My Yes!.
I am one of those paranoid people however that saves my contacts occasionally on my IDisk, so I have been able to restore my contact list to a couple of months back but I am terrified to sync my IPhone or touch the "Ilove" program again. Should I erase the "ILove" application? I can't afford to have my IPhone wiped if there is an anomaly still floating around in there.
Thanks for the info Linda.
We've had our QA team trying to reproduce this today with no luck so far.
How many contacts do you have in your address book? If it is a really large address book, that could be what is causing the beach ball of death.
From your description, it sounds like what might have happened is that your address book was corrupted by shutting down while iLovePhotos was having a hard time trying to update it.
I'm glad to hear you were able to restore your address book and feel bad that you had to go through the trouble.
If you're up for it, I'm really curious to know if it happens again if you retry it. You can easily backup your address book beforehand by using the "File > Export > Address book archive" Function.
Apologies for the hassle. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this. If you give it another shot, let me know how it goes.
Cory
I only have about 200 contacts, certainly not many. How would my address book have corrupted when I shut it down? Any ideas? I did a few more tgs and then shut everything down. Nothing happenned this time. In your opinion, should I try to sync my IPhone?
To be honest I"m not quite sure how this would happen. Sometimes while writing data a file can get corrupted by terminating that process. Hard to say if this is what actually happened or not.
Our QA team is digging really deep into finding the problem though, and your info will help us do that.
iTunes does a pretty good job of regularly backing up your iphone and keeping things in sync. As long as you have a backup you should be safe. More info about that on the apple site:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Until we get to the bottom of this, you can still safely use iLovePhotos without checking the "Update in address book" option.
Thanks again for all your help and apologies for the problems.
Cory
Hi Cory Well, I plugged my IPhone into ITunes for my sync because my calendar was getting out of date and guess what. The ITunes sync erased my contacts list on my IPhone. I know you say it probably has nothing to do with "ILovephotos", but whenever I am researching a problem, my first question is always"What has changed". The only thing that changed is that while tagging with "Ilovephotos" I ran into a problem and on restart my contacts disappeared. Now, even though I had restored contacts to my computer from an old list, it erased my IPhone contacts upon sync.
Hi Linda. Sorry if I came across as "its not our fault"...that was not my intention. The way you described your problem definitely sounds like it has something to do with how iLovePhotos interacted with your address book, even though it's not something we've seen or been able to duplicate.
The fact that you plugged in your iphone and it erased contacts on your iPhone suggests there is a sync issue between iTunes and you iPhone. Below is how apple suggests that you restore your iphone from a backup.
Hopefully this will work for you. Really sorry for all the hassle!! Let me know how it goes.
Restoring from a Backup
To restore information from a backup use one of the following methods after connecting your iPhone or iPod touch to the computer you normally sync with:
* In iTunes, select the device, then select the Summary tab and click Restore (this erases all data on iPhone). When prompted, select the option to restore your settings.
or
* Right-click (or Control-click) the device, and choose Restore from Backup.
Notes:
* Information you can sync from the computer (e.g., photos, videos, songs) that are not stored in the back up will need to be resynced. Photos you take with iPhone are included in the backup with iPhone software 1.1 and later.
* Your passwords will need to be entered again if you restore your backup to a different device.
* If you restored to a different iPhone, you will need to reactivate Visual Voicemail.
I downloaded I love photos yesterday and started tagging people. If I changed a photo, it wouldn't change it in my address book so I shut down my Mac and when I restarted, my entire address book was gone! Help. Any ideas?
